Every day in Morocco, thousands of perfectly good meals end up in the bin. We decided that had to change.
Our mission: no good meal wasted
Food waste is one of the great paradoxes of our time: roughly a third of the food produced worldwide is never eaten, even though water, energy and hard work went into producing it. In Morocco, bakeries, pastry shops, restaurants, cafés and grocery stores throw away unsold yet perfectly edible products every evening.
Manger.ma exists to give that surplus a second life. We connect merchants who have unsold food with nearby customers ready to pick it up at a reduced price. The merchant cuts their losses, the customer saves money, and good food is rescued instead of thrown away. Everyone wins — including the planet.
How it started
Manger.ma was born from a simple observation, made in front of a neighbourhood bakery at closing time: whole trays of still-fresh bread, pastries and cakes headed for the bin because no one had bought them. Multiply that daily waste by the thousands of shops across the Kingdom and you get an enormous loss — economic as much as environmental.
Inspired by anti-waste initiatives that have proven themselves elsewhere in the world, our team set out to build a solution designed for Morocco: simple, available in Arabic and French, adapted to local habits, with payment made directly in store at pickup — no bank card required.
What is a surprise basket?
The surprise basket is the heart of Manger.ma. At the end of the day, a merchant never knows exactly what will be left over, so they put together a basket of the day's unsold items and sell it for a fraction of its original value. The exact contents are a surprise, but the category (bakery, meals, fruit and vegetables, groceries...) and the value are announced in advance.
